battlefield 2042 delayed

Battlefield 2042’s Digital PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Versions Now Include Cross-Gen Access

Electronic Arts has announced that Battlefield 2042‘s digital PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will now include access to the cross-gen bundle, which was previously only available with the premium Gold and Ultimate editions.

What this means is that if you fork out an additional $10 and buy the $69.99/£69.99 standard digital next-gen editions – even if you don’t own the new consoles – you’ll not only get the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Battlefield 2042, but you’ll also have the game available to you when you get your hands on the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.

“We realize that for many, next gen hardware is still hard to come by,” wrote EA. “We want as many Battlefield fans as possible to start the journey with us on day one, and we want to give those players the peace of mind that their progress carries over if they get a new system this holiday season, or beyond. Battlefield 2042 supports full cross progression, and alongside our Digital editions of Gold, and Ultimate, the Digital Standard Edition on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S is also now able to access the Cross-Gen Bundle.”

Those who’ve already preordered the digital standard edition on the new hardware need not worry. You’re automatically being upgraded to receive access to Battlefield 2042‘s last-gen version.

EA didn’t say why this benefit doesn’t apply to the physical standard editions of Battlefield 2042 on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but something is better than nothing!

Following a delay, Battlefield 2042 will release on November 19th.
