Made in Abyss Release Date Window

Made in Abyss JRPG Release Date Coming This Year for PS4

Developer Spike Chunsoft has announced that the Made in Abyss release date window for the anime’s first video game adaptation will be Fall 2022. Winning Crunchyroll’s anime of the year in 2017, Made in Abyss by Akihito Tsukushi is a seemingly light-hearted and heart-warming manga and anime about two kids who want to explore the gaping dark Abyss in the center of their town. But don’t let the bright, almost Dragon Quest-like aesthetic fool you; the psychological horrors and the bloody consequences the children face are downright traumatic.

What will be in the Made in Abyss JRPG?

Fully named Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness, this video game adaptation will be split into two storylines. The first follows the main plot, beginning with the meeting between the two protagonists, Riko and Reg, as they start their adventure. This mode is meant to teach you the basics of the combat as they attempt to reach the Seeker Camp in the second layer of the Abyss and face off against primeval creatures.

The second storyline, supervised by creator Tsukuchi, features an original character which you create who (foolishly) decides to descend into the Abyss after the main characters do. As a nameless Cave Raider—if this is giving you a Soulsborne vibe, that’s intentional—you must survive the unrelenting power of the Abyss.

This Made in Abyss JRPG can be played in Japanese or English, complete with fully voiced scenes with the original anime’s voice cast. The Collector’s Edition of the game comes with a commemorative cloth poster with exclusive art by the anime’s development team Kinema Citrus and a Cave-Raiding Notebook featuring art of Relics, Whistles, and primeval creatures.

The Made in Abyss release date window is Fall 2022, and the game will release on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. Physical versions of the game are currently only slated for European regions. More information can be found on its teaser website.

In other news, World of Tanks developer Wargaming has shut down its studios in Russia and Belarus, and Return to Monkey Island has been surprisingly announced by legendary creator Ron Gilbert.
