PlayStation 5 Getting Long-Awaited Open-World RPG Sequel

A beloved open-world RPG has officially announced its long-awaited sequel, set to arrive on PlayStation 5. The announcement comes more than six years after Tripwire Interactive released the original game.

During today’s State of Play broadcast, Tripwire announced that Maneater 2, a sequel to its hit 2020 open-world role-playing game, will launch in 2027 for PS5 alongside Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Also described as shARkPG, Maneater 2 is currently in development. The announcement comes after the success of the original game. Since the launch of an official expansion, Maneater: Truth Quest, back in 2021, the franchise has amassed more than 20 million players worldwide.

The official description for Maneater 2 reads, “Eat, explore, and evolve as you try to escape an invite-only preview event for Neptune’s Kingdom—an ultra-luxury seaside theme park destined for disaster, where YOU are that disaster.”

Neptune’s Kingdom turns a luxury paradise into a deadly evolution playground

Maneater 2 will take place during an invite-only preview event at Neptune’s Kingdom. It is an ultra-luxury private-island theme park destined for disaster, where the bull shark will wreak havoc. The story will explore the effects of the park’s advanced marine research, which pushes technological, natural, and ethical boundaries.

For the bull shark, Neptune’s Kingdom will serve as a fully realized aquatic sandbox with secrets to uncover, courses and currents to traverse, dangers to overcome, and an all-you-can-eat VIP buffet.

Players in control of the shark will get to do multiple things. They can hunt prey throughout the park’s marine ecosystem, including pufferfish, jumbo crab, piranha, grouper and more. Not to mention humans.

Given its open-world nature, the game will offer plenty of opportunities for exploration. Players can explore the park’s monumental architecture, cause havoc on a thrill ride, grab a snack at Mojitodal, and discover the secrets lurking in the deep.

The RPG will focus on how human greed can affect nature in the most adverse ways possible. It will explore how the park’s bioengineers push the ethical boundaries of science.

Eventually, the shark will have to tip the scales back in nature’s favor and escape Neptune’s Kingdom before an imminent disaster strikes. Reality TV host Trip Westhaven, voiced by Chris Parnell (Rick and Morty, Archer), will assist it.
