In an announcement we didn’t expect to hear today, a major last-gen game is going free on PS5 and PS4 after nearly a decade. Fortnite is a household name now, but newcomers might not know that before the free-to-play battle royale was a paid looter shooter called Fortnite: Save the World. Epic Games has decided to make the 2017 game free for everyone.
Fortnite: Save the World, ‘the game that started it all,’ becomes free on PS5, PS4 in April
Save the World is going free on all platforms on April 16. Folks interested in the looter shooter can register their interest now. The more people register, the more in-game rewards everyone gets.
“After nearly ten years, the game that started it all welcomes even more players to join the fight,” Epic Games said. “As a thank you for the last nine years of world saving, current players will receive Superchargers, Vouchers, and Gold on April 16.”

This change comes after Epic Games announced that it’s increasing the price of V-Bucks because the costs of keeping Fortnite up and running have also increased. The denominations sold will remain the same, but players will get fewer V-Bucks for the same price.
A nice way to soften that blow!
