If you’re a fan of the raunchy South Park animated cartoon series, then you’re hopefully aware of Zen Studios adapting the show to not one, but two pinball tables. South Park’s record with successful video game adaptations has been getting better over the years, but what about this niche genre?
$5 nets you two tables. The first, named South Park’s Super-Sweet Pinball, has everyone who’s ever mattered on South Park: Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, Butters, Jimmy, Timmy, Wendy, their parents, Mr. Garrison, Ms. Crabtree, Chef, Mr. Hankey, ManBearPig, and more. This table features eight lanes, five flippers, and a faux screen up top.
The second table, South Park: Butter’s Very Own Pinball Game, focuses on the fifth-wheel character, Butters. The main theme plays straight from the television episode that starred him, and you can choose from a variety of missions. Each is based on various outfits and personas that Butters has taken on, from his nefarious Professor Chaos alter-ego to the failed undercover girl Marjorine. If you’re a fan of Butters, you’ll love this table.
Throughout your play sessions, you will hear audio that sounds like it was ripped straight out of the show. These sound samples likely were pulled in that manner, as well — some are lower quality, though not too noticeably. Chef’s voice has the most noticeable change in quality, which makes sense given that actor’s sudden departure from the show years ago.
If you haven’t been keeping up with the series, I am happy to report that a lot of the game’s references are to the first handful of seasons. A couple are from the first episode, in fact! There are a couple of newer episodes thrown in, but for the most part the missions revolve around the staples of the franchise. For $5, you get two tables rich in the venerable animated show’s hijinks. Everyone’s favorite character is likely featured here, and there is a lot of challenge to be found. If you’re a fan of the series and enjoy pinball, buy it!
