Naughty Dog Stresses Uncharted 3’s Multiplayer Importance

While most of the attention for Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is fixated on the game’s single-player campaign, developer Naughty Dog has stressed the importance of the title’s multiplayer component.

The studio have made it clear that they’re aiming for Uncharted 3‘s online multiplayer mode to compete with the heavy hitters in the market. The game’s designer, Richard Lemarchand, told GI.Biz:

Multiplayer is a hugely important part of Uncharted 3, yes. From the very first day of the project we wanted to make a multiplayer game that would be world class. We really wanted to take on the big boys of the multiplayer world.

Lemarchand added:

I hope that the visibility of Uncharted 2 means that people are going to come for the terrific, cinematic single player experience but then stay for the multiplayer experience, and because of the depth of content we’ve put in there’s a lot of reasons to stay…it’s now an important part of everybody’s business model going forwards.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is due for a launch in North American retailers come November 1st and a day later for European territories. The online multiplayer mode is currently accessible via a promotion with selected Subway products.
