Battlefield 3 Has an “Aggressive Downloadable Content Plan”

Even though Battlefield 3 has only just released, EA is already talking about the DLC plans for the game. Not only will Back to Karkand launch this December, but a whole host of expansion packs are still to come.

EA’s Frank Gibeau said in a conference call with investors:

In terms of engagement, the Battlefield community has the highest engagement rates inside of Electronic Arts in terms of the online play. We do that through a variety of means. First and foremost, we have a fairly aggressive downloadable content plan out in front of us. We’ve already announced the Strike at Karkand Map Pack that is going to becoming available and we’ll be constantly updating on the servers and infrastructure with new features and enhancements. Our plans over the next 6 months is to have a very robust set of expansion packs past on Strike at Karkand and that we think the community’s going to be very, very excited about.

As games become increasingly multiplayer focused, it is important for developers to be forward-thinking with their DLC plans to ensure that players don’t leave their game for another one, but gamers can become alienated if too much content is kept off the disc in order to be sold on the PSN.
