Sony Comments on Current PS3 Slim SKU, No Formal Price Drop Planned

While Sony plans to roll out its super-slim version of the PS3 next week, it doesn’t look like the launch of this new model will affect the PlayStation 3s currently sitting on store shelves.

John Koller, SCEA’s VP of marketing explained to Engadget that since the demand is still quite high for the console, there’s no need for them to cut price.

There’s no price drop formally, but the thing that’s been happening in the market over the last year or so is that there’s been so many retail price promotions, and so many different gift card offers and all those things, being done by all of us (Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony), that we’ve heard from our consumer: ‘Enough with all these weird price moves. What we really want is content and games and value.’

So there you have it. If $250 still seems too steep for you, I suggest waiting until Black Friday, when you will almost certainly be able to pick up the console and a few games at an amazing price.
