2013 to be “Quite Possibly the Biggest” Year for Guerrilla Games Since 2004, Hints at New IP on PS4

Sony’s first party studio Guerrilla Games has taken to the PS Blog to wish everyone a happy holiday, sharing the stylish bauble-Helghast image that you can see below. But they’ve also teased their plans for next year, hinting at what’s the come.

GG’s Victor Zuylen talked about 2013:

2013 is gearing up to be another big year for Guerrilla – quite possibly the biggest since we released the original Killzone way back in 2004. We’ll have more details for you at a future date, but until then we hope you share a wonderful holiday with your loved ones, and we’ll see you in 2013.

The only game confirmed to come from GG next year is the Vita title Killzone Mercenary, which is in development by Guerrilla Cambridge (previously known as SCE Cambridge). While Mercenary is sure to be a big title for the handheld, it isn’t enough to merit 2013 being the studio’s biggest year in almost a decade. Basically, they’re teasing that their main development studio, based in Amsterdam, is also going to release a game next year.

That’s where it gets interesting, because we previously uncovered that they are working on the PS4, which could help back up all the rumors that point to a 2013 PS4 release date. You’d also think that any major PS3 titles for 2013 would have been announced by now, while PS4 games are understandably kept secret.

Guerrilla have also previously confirmed that they’re developing a new IP, and considering that announcement was over 2 years ago, 2013 seems like a logical release date. The fact that Zuylen compared 2013 to 2004 – the last time they launched a new IP – is also rather telling. As for what the new IP is, we don’t know yet, but the company is hiring for FPS/Action developers.
