Epic Mickey Developer Junction Point Closes Up Shop

Just yesterday, rumors regarding the closure of the team behind the Epic Mickey games, Junction Point Studios, started circulating the web. Today, Disney has confirmed that the studio has in fact closed its development doors.

Disney issued the following statement clarifying the disheartening news:

It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities.

We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.

Last year’s Epic Mickey sequel is believed to have sold significantly less than the original, which is likely the main reason for the studio’s closure. Let’s also not dismiss the fact that Disney has a whole new franchise they’re pouring their resources into, leaving little room for a series dedicated to their iconic cartoon mouse.
