PlayStation 3 Tops the Australian Sales Charts During 2012, Finishes First in all Major Categories

According to analysis from the Australian NPD and information from the iGEA 2012 market overview, PlayStation Australia has announced that the PS3 won in platform, hardware, and software sales across the country.

The numbers show that PS3 software was #1 in Australia with a 28.9% share, PS3 hardware was #1 with a 27% share and #1 with the greatest value share at 32%, while total platform performance (combines hardware, software, and peripherals) was #1 in unit sales at a 25.3% share and highest dollar value share at 31.3%.

Talking about the PS3’s very impressive showing in the region, Michael Ephraim, Managing Director at Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, had this to say:

PlayStation 3 continues to power in Australia. Our sales leadership strength continues despite factors such as economic downturn, aggressive industry pricing and new competitor consoles being launched. PlayStation 3 sales continue to perform because it remains a great value, high definition entertainment solution for all Australian families that offers exceptional games, movies, TV and music experiences.

Moving into 2013, with AAA blockbusters on the horizon such as God of War: Ascension, the critically acclaimed The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, plus more for the family with new titles for Wonderbook, we plan to continue the PlayStation momentum and magic for our Australian customers.

We are also seeing accelerated growth in our online sales driven by an increased range of digital content and subscription products such as the PlayStation Plus program in Australia.
