Borderlands 2 Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2 DLC Hits September 3rd, More DLC Coming in October
The wait for more Borderlands 2 content is nearing its end as Gearbox has announced (via DigitalTrends) that the level cap upgrade to 72 will be releasing on September 3rd in North America, and most likely September 4th in Europe, as part of the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2 for $4.99.
Also included in the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2 is the Digistruct Peak Challenge, which introduces a new area and mission, taking about an hour to finish. As well, while the level cap may be locked at 72, you can face monsters and collect loot rated up to level 80 as part of the new Overpower levels, which Jason Reiss, Designer at Gearbox, explains:
The idea there is you complete this arena and, if you’re at level 72, then you’ll unlock Overpower level 1. You’ll exit the map and when you re-host the game, you’ll have a prompt that will let you decide what Overpower level you want to play at.
He then talked about why they didn’t just put the level cap at 80 instead:
If you look at our skill tree, you’ll definitely notice that we’re running out of skill points. We’re trying to keep the diversity there. We do want players to level up and get more skills and have a lot of fun with that, but Digistruct Peak adds the icing on top of the cake, pretty much. More challenge, more adventure, more gear to collect.
Following the level cap upgrade, you can expect three Headhunter packs, with TK Baha’s Bloody Harvest kicking things off in October, and the other two scheduled to release prior to the end of 2013.
These Headhunter packs will cost less than the story add-ons at $10 (no definitive price nailed down though) and have you fighting against a boss, the Pumpkin Kingpin is the one you’ll see in Bloody Harvest, while you play through a mid-sized environment.
