70 Percent of UK Retailers Wager PS4 Will Outsell Xbox One in 2016, Half Cast Doubt Over VR’s Chances of Success

The strong sales of PlayStation 4 will continue long into 2016, according to UK retailers, with 75 percent claiming that Sony’s hardware will outsell its chief competitors over the course of the next 12 months. On the other hand, 27 percent vouch for Xbox One.

Figures were revealed courtesy of MCV’s Annual Retail Survey, where UK retail chains reasoned that PS4’s console exclusive lineup, one which includes Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian and Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky, among others, will maintain the system’s momentum through 2016.

Coupled with this was a statistic revealing that 41 percent of retailers that partook in MCV’s survey consider Uncharted 4 to be the most-anticipated release of 2016 across all platforms, while Fallout 4 was considered game of the year by a landslide 62 percent of outlets in the country.

In terms of hardware, 55 per cent of UK retailers cautioned that virtual reality devices such as PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift will struggle to take off during their first year on the market, with five percent struggling to imagine the new tech making much of an impact at all.

In closing, MCV UK’s report revealed that, for the second year on the trot, Microsoft was voted best UK publisher by 31 percent of retail participants, buoyed by a strong lineup of first-party titles such as Halo 5: Guardians and Forza Motorsport 6
