Yakuza 0 Localization Producer Explains the Game’s Story and Setting

Nearly two years afters its initial launch in Japan, Yakuza 0 is making its way outside the region. If you haven’t kept up with the game’s story and setting, then SEGA’s Localization Producer Scott Strichart is here to do just that. In the video above, he discusses the context of 1988’s Kamurocho and Sotenbori while also shedding a light on the protagonist and his story, so check it out.

Here’s a synopsis if you prefer the written version:

The 1980s in Japan were defined by unprecedented amounts of decadent overindulgence – and nothing was out of greed’s reach, especially in Kamurocho. A chilly but electric Tokyo in December 1988 is the backdrop for Kazuma Kiryu’s ascension into the ranks of the Yakuza – the name given to members of notorious crime organizations.

Yakuza 0 is coming to the PlayStation 4 on January 24, 2017. If you haven’t already, you can read our import review over here. Our very own Heath Hindman awarded it a 9/10, praising it for its detail, memorable moments, excellent combat system, and more.
