Titanfall 2 PS4 Pro Support Is On-Disc, Won’t Run in Native 4K

Unlike other games that add PlayStation 4 Pro support through updatesTitanfall 2 will have the compatibility included on the game disc, Producer Drew McCoy has revealed. Asked on Twitter if Titanfall 2 will receive PS4 Pro support via an update, McCoy replied, “Support is on the disc.”

Speaking about the PS4 Pro with Stevivor, McCoy confirmed that Titanfall 2 isn’t native 4K, as it takes a lot of processing power:

[Titanfall 2’s] not native 4K and I would be surprised if anyone saw native 4K with AAA level games any time soon. It just takes so much processing power. It’s unbelievable amounts of just GPU grunt to do that.

If you do play Titanfall 2 on a PS4 Pro, you’ll notice an increased resolution, high-res shadows, “maybe” higher particle counts, and a more stable frame-rate. “We have dynamic resolution scaling on all consoles, but it scales down less often on PS4 Pro to maintain 60 frames-per-second,” he added.

McCoy also brought up the fact that a game played on PS4 Pro can’t play or look worse than a game played on the standard PS4:

Because we also made the PC version, we have some nobs we can tweak, so we just spent some time making sure it still runs well and looks good on PS4 Pro. You know, making sure it doesn’t look any worse at all. That’s the requirement: it can’t run any worse or look worse than on PS4. So it runs better, looks better, and has no bugs on PS4 Pro.

If you’re planning on downloading Titanfall 2 for PS4, the pre-load is live and the file is about 35GB. The day one update is only 88MB, and the digital version will unlock at 12am ET on Friday, October 28.
