Capcom VP Has High Expectations for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is  hard to escape. Comic fans see  new developments for it at Marvel’s website and gamers find updates about it in nearly every game and trade publication. All this well deserved exposure has it being one of the most anticipated titles by Capcom of the new year; which could just outsell another one of their most recent successful franchises…so says the VP himself.

Christian Svensson, Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business development, was asked in a recent interview if he thought MvC3 would outsell Street Fighter IV. He said, “That is my expectation, yes”. Svensson then went to clarify why he felt that way:

“MvC3 has a more broadly appealing/recognizable brand with the inclusion of Marvel, a more accessible but still deep fighting system that’s fun for casual players and EVO attendees. It’s only helped by the fact that it has been by far, our most requested sequel title in my tenure here at Capcom.”

From a promotion standpoint, Svensson stated: “…we’ll be supporting it with marketing at least as aggressive if not more so than we did with Street Fighter 4 to ensure everyone knows that it’s coming”, he added:

“All of these factors lead me to believe that it will be at least as successful as SF4 from a sales perspective.”

With Marvel vs. Capcom 2 being Capcom’s best selling digital title, it’s no wonder that a  AAA title like MvC3 is going to get the executive treatment. With banners popping up promoting the game’s arrival at the upcoming NYC Comic-Com happening October 8-10, I think they’re moving in the right direction.
