PixelJunk Shooter 2 Wields New Weaponry

This past weekend at CES 2011 a demo version of PixelJunk Shooter 2 was playable for attendees, and according to the game’s producer Matt Morton it is nearly finished. There is still no confirmation of a date, but a few other interesting details were revealed, and the only serve to heighten the anticipation. The PlayStation Blog’s Jeff Rubenstein was at the CES 2011 show floor this past weekend, and luckily for us he caught a quick interview with Matt Morton, the producer of PixelJunk Shooter 2. During the interview Matt talked about the new multiplayer mode, which is described as a cat and mouse game between players. One player flies around rescuing people to take back to a “safe zone”, while the other player is hunting them down. Once the hunter player kills the hunted, they trade roles. This we already knew, thanks to a preview video released a few weeks ago. However, Matt filled in a few details regarding new weapons that are quite interesting.

All of the points that you get you use to unlock and insane amount of crazy power ups, and you can attach three power ups to your ship every time you go into a map. One of my favorites is a big wall of water that you can launch through the entire map. There’s also a fluid changer that can turn water into lava, lava into water, a gravity changer, camoflauge, sonar… there’s too much.

Jeff also asked about seeing new bosses, and the release of the game:

We will definitely see more bosses. We’re kind of doing a Star Wars-y thing here, because the first boss is technically boss four. Boss five is my favorite. He’s a lava dwelling turtle. … We don’t have an official date yet, but we are so close. Right now we’re trying to go for certification, so, soooon!

That certainly sounds like a lot of great stuff! Go here to see the full interview. Will you be picking up PixelJunk Shooter 2 when it releases?
