Tiny Battlers Not So Small on Sales Charts, Japan’s Current Best-Selling Games Announced

No one questioned for a second that Ryu Ga Gotoku: Of the End (Yakuza: Of the End in the West) would sell a truckload of copies early into its retail run. Many may be surprised, however, to find that in just its second week on the market, it’s been dethroned by a PSP game. Level-5’s robot combat RPG Danboru Senki, or “Tiny Battlers,” stands atop the pile in the most recent issuing of Media Create’s software sales figures.

The top 10 best sellers list for last week looks like this:

1. Tiny Battlers (PSP)

2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)

3. Yakuza: Of the End (PS3)

4. Steins Gate (360)

5. Steins Gate Double Pack (360)

6. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (3DS)

7. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional (DS)

8. Pokemon Typing (DS)

9. Wii Party (Wii)

10. One Piece: Unlimited Cruise SP (3DS)

Now, don’t let the above surprise make you think pessimistically on Sega’s behalf, though, as Yakuza: Of the End is still the leader for the month of June, hands down. After its June 9 release, it’s already sold almost all of the 400,000 copies that Sega shipped to retailers. Tiny Battlers having pumped out 166,000 in its debut, it still has a heck of a mountain to climb before catching up with Kazuma Kiryu.

The next sales update will have the details on the much talked-about debut of Atelier Meruru, so stay tuned.
