Silicon Knights Substantially Expands Team, Courtesy of Canadian Government

Developer and now self-publisher Silicon Knights have revealed a plan to double their team with the help of the Ontario government. The three-million dollar government grant will help the developer to hire new employee’s, boosting their numbers from 97 to around 177.

In addition to expanding their team, Silicon Knights also revealed that they are creating a brand new game development engine and that they plan to cut out the middle man and self-publish future titles. This new engine is said to feature “advanced camera systems, improved audio and video and better computing technology”, which will enable it to “develop the next generation of gaming systems and become a self-sustainable, self-publishing company”.

Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack added:

With Ontario government support, we are better-positioned to further develop the 8th Art of videogames. This will enhance our competitive edge within the highly-competitive video game market, help us become a self-sustainable, self-publishing entity, and allow us to enter lucrative global markets.

You might know Silicon Knights for their work on Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes or Too Human, and they are currently hard at work on X-Men Destiny, which will be published by Activision. You
