New Tomb Raider Film to Serve as Reboot, Follow Cues from Upcoming Game

It looks like the producer behind the upcoming Tomb Raider film will be taking a page out of game developer Eidos’ book, as they plan to reboot Lara Croft in their next movie.

Much like the game, the film is set to expose the origins of Lara, and explore her earlier years as an adventurer. Graham King, the man at the helm of the film was careful to point out that while the earlier flicks starring Angelina Jolie “weren’t disasters”, he plans to take the franchise in a very different direction. Think origins story like Batman Begins, and you’ll have a good idea of King’s approach.

I find it interesting that the story that we’re telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece.

It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different. I’ve not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we’re going to give it a shot.

The film reboot it set to launch sometime 2013.
