Arkane Combats Comments Made by EA on the Dangers of Launching New IP Late This Gen

Just last week, EA labels boss Frank Gibeau shared his excitement for the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4, saying that EA has a lot of new and compelling content planed for the next-gen. The exec went on to add that they’re waiting for new hardware because launching a new IP this late in a console’s life cycle would be a mistake.

Arkane Studios however, is doing just that with Dishonored, and executive producer Julien Roby spoke with IGN to address Gibeau’s sweeping comments.

Well, you probably have some insight on that but I think as long as the game is good, whether it’s a new IP or not, if the game is good, it gets a good review and it’s marketed properly people will want to look at it.

Specifically now, because it’s been a few years where we’ve only got sequels of sequels of sequels of sequels. I think people are getting tired of just playing the same thing over and over.

Roby went on to say that he and the rest of the team at Arkane are putting their faith in the gaming community to invest in and support Dishonored’s creative vision. “So I hope that they’re going to try Dishonored for the fact that it’s trying to do something a little different that those other games.”

Dishonored is set to launch on October 9th.
