The Catch-Up: July 11th, 2013 – Big VGA Announcement Already Being Planned, Just Dance Kids 2014 is a Thing

I hadn’t put much thought into it yet, but hearing that the Spike TV Video Game Awards are just 5 months away means that the crazy busy holiday season is fast approaching, so I really need to get through my backlog before it starts (basically next month).

General News

  • We may be 5 month away from the Spike TV Video Game Awards this year, but Geoff Keighley has already met “with a developer behind of this year’s big announcements.” Feel free to put your craziest guesses as to what it might be in the comments below. [Twitter]
  • It remains to be seen if PlayStation consoles will get it, but the ACB has rated Just Dance Kids 2014, because Just Dance 2014 isn’t enough Just Dance this year. [ACB]
  • David Cage will be showing off some exclusive footage of The Dark Sorcerer at GDC Europe 2013 next month. [Source]
  • Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on PS3 will be able to link more than one service account to a Sony Entertainment Network account. [Source]
  • The 2014 Canadian Video Game Awards will take place this spring in Toronto. [Twitter]
  • Dragon’s Dogma Quest won’t be a PlayStation Vita exclusive anymore, as it will come to iOS in the next few days in Japan, with the Vita getting later this fall in Japan. [Source]
  • Heavy Fire: Shattered Spear is launching in the UK for PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 2nd. [Press Release]
  • The Faction Pack for Metro: Last Light comes out on July 16th in North America and July 17th in Europe for $4.99/£3.99/€4.99. In this DLC, you’ll find three original single player missions that put you as a different specialist from the warring Factions, locations from Metro 2033, new weapons, and the return of a mutant enemy.   • Though undated, the Tower Pack for Metro: Last Light will add a challenge based game mode with online leaderboard supports, as you fight your way up the combat simulator known as The Tower. [Press Release]
  • Also undated, the Developer Pack for Metro: Last Light has a fully stocked Shooting Gallery, AI Arena, Metro Museum, and a solo mission, The Spiders’ Nest, where you get new tools for dealing with an infestation of Spider mutants. [Press Release]
  • Finally, and also undated, the Chronicles Pack has original single player missions that cast you as Pavel, Khan, and Anna as you explore their side stories. [Press Release]
  • Pub Games Vita from Super Icon has been renamed Indoor Sports World. It’s slated to release soon on PlayStation Vita and includes Air Hockey, Darts, Pool and Snooker, as well as trophies, online play, and ongoing DLC. [Source]
  • Superfrog HD releases for the PS3 and PS Vita on July 31st in Europe for £6.49/€7.99. It includes Cross Buy, Cross Saves, Cross Controller, HD graphics, 24 new levels, 24 original levels unlockable through the Fruit Machine, a level editor, and an endless runner mode.   • 1001 Spikes now officially has 1 – 4 player multiplayer. [Twitter]
  • Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for Europe has an updated release date of September 12th in Europe, except the UK, who gets it on September 13th. [Twitter]
  • The 9th Assassin’s Creed III multiplayer event starts tomorrow. [Source]
  • Along with it being $4.99 on the PSN, Retro City Rampage for PS3 and PS Vita is getting a new patch very soon that adds a Retro+ Enhanced Graphics Mode, ROM City Rampage (hardware accurate playable prototype version), a Gallery, and various tweaks and fixes. [Source]
