July 2013 was the Worst Month Ever for Retail Games in the UK, The Last of Us Sold the Most

Thanks to a low amount of interesting new releases, the heat, and Sebastian not spending any of his millions of games journalism dollars, the UK suffered its worst month at retail in history, according to a report by GfK Chart-Track (via MCV).

In total, just over 1 million retail games were sold during July, 40.4% lower than June 2013, and 33.3% lower than July 2012. Overall, stores managed just over £23 million from game sales, about half the amount in June 2013.

Looking at new release games for July, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros., Pikmin 3, and Dynasty Warriors 8 were the only ones present in the top 50 best-sellers, while The Last of Us became the second best-selling game of 2013.

Here’s the top 10 selling games in the UK during July 2013:

  1. The Last of Us
  2. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition
  3. Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  4. FIFA 13
