It seems like every single day leading up to the much anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto V, we’re talking about the game more and more (though we won’t post spoilers, of which there are many now on the web due to leaks). When it comes to the UK, MCV is reporting that more than 1,000 stores will be open at midnight for launch, with retailers saying that Grand Theft Auto V could be the biggest release of the year there.

Speaking to specific retailers, GAME Category Director said, “There’s a very good chance that [Grand Theft Auto V] could be the biggest entertainment launch in history.” HMV’s Senior Category Director talked about how “San Andreas on PS2 is still one of the best examples of how hardware can be pushed once developers understand the capabilities of a console and Rockstar have done it again with GTA V.” Adding, “This is probably the best thing that could have happened to the current gen with the next-gen around the corner.”

Meanwhile, Asda boss said, “GTA IV has been flying off the shelves in anticipation.” while Grainger Game’s Head of Buying added, “We expect GTA V to blow records apart on launch. It is by far the most pre-ordered title we have had to date.”
