Sony on The Last Guardian: “Thank You for Believing That This Day Could Still Come”

Originally announced in 2009 for PlayStation 3, The Last Guardian is now available in North America for PlayStation 4.

To celebrate the launch of a game that’s been in development for nearly 10 years, Sony Interactive Entertainment America President Shawn Layden praised creator Fumito Ueda, who previously directed ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, adding that “both forever have a place in PlayStation’s proud history.”

Layden continued by thanking fans for still believing that The Last Guardian would one day become a reality:

When I reintroduced The Last Guardian at E3 2015, I was genuinely moved by the passion of that audience. Few experiences compare to hearing fans rejoice an unexpected light at the end of a very long tunnel.

Much like that of the boy and his fantastical companion Trico, this has been a tremendous journey. It’s a rare feat in our industry to endure nearly a decade in development. Many amazing people have contributed along the way, all of them believing – as you, our amazing fans, do – in Ueda-san and his singular, exacting vision.

The wait, at last, is over. On behalf of PlayStation, thank you for believing that this day could still come.

If you live in Europe, The Last Guardian will be available on December 7. Those in the UK and Ireland will have to wait until December 9.

The day one update for The Last Guardian is over 1GB in size, and getting the Platinum Trophy will require you to speedrun through the game.

In our 10/10 review of The Last Guardian, we said that it’s “beautiful. In every way.”
