Zelda: Breath of the Wild Is Currently the Highest-Rated Game Since 2008

Released today for Nintendo Switch and Wii U, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Switch is currently the 4th highest-rated game of all-time on Metacritic, and the highest-rated game of all-time on OpenCritic.

Sitting at 98 on Metacritic, Breath of the Wild is behind The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (99), Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 (98), and Grand Theft Auto IV for PlayStation 3 (98), but is ahead of SoulCalibur (98) and Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox One 360 (98). If it stays at 98, Breath of the Wild will be the first game since GTA IV in 2008 to score that high.

On OpenCritic, Breath of the Wild is also at 98, placing it ahead of Grand Theft Auto V (96), Flower (95), The Last of Us Remastered (95), Journey (94), and Super Mario 3D World (94).

In their review of Breath of the Wild, GameRevolution said, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild isn’t just good, it’s the best launch title I’ve ever played. It will single-handedly validate the purchase of the Switch for many people, and given the device’s $299 price tag that’s a huge accomplishment.”

Horizon Zero Dawn is currently sitting at 88 on Metacritic, with Nioh at 87. NieR: Automata for PlayStation 4 only has a handful of reviews so far (it doesn’t come out until next week in the West), but it’s sitting at 94 right now.
