Persona 5 Standard Edition Controller Skin Revealed, Amazon Reportedly Cancelling Special Edition Orders

Update (March 28): According to an email from Amazon, those affected by the Take Your Heart cancellations will be given a free copy of the game to make up for the inconvenience:

Original Story: Atlus announced today that the standard edition of Persona 5 for PlayStation 4 in the Americas will include a DualShock 4 controller skin featuring members of The Phantom Thieves. In addition to the controller skin, the above video includes a quick look at the Take Your Heart and Steelbook editions.

“Those who have missed out on the Take Your Heart Premium and SteelBook editions will receive a DualShock 4 Wireless Controller skin with their standard edition of the game!” Atlus said. They later added, “The controller skin is available inside marked copies of the standard PS4 in the Americas while supplies last.”

If you pre-ordered a copy of the Take Your Heart Premium edition or SteelBook edition from Amazon, players are reporting that their order is being cancelled. According to the email sent out to those affected, it’s “because this item contains regulated materials classified as dangerous goods.”

Here’s what one of the emails says:

Hello,

Due to delivery restrictions on your order #[removed], we won’t be able to send you Persona 5 – SteelBook Edition – PlayStation 4.

This is because this item contains regulated materials classified as dangerous goods and can not be delivered by Amazon. Although the amount of these substances in these products is usually quite limited, these products need to be transported in a certain way to ensure that they are handled with care.

Unfortunately, this means that we’re not able to ship your order and it has been canceled.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience and hope to see you again soon.

NeoGAF user LiquidGabx spoke to an Amazon representative about the cancellation and, according to their response, “the entire inventory Amazon had received from the manufacturer had a major defect.”

It appears as though this issue only affects Amazon orders (and not orders from other retailers), and some who pre-ordered from Amazon say they haven’t received a cancellation email, suggesting that this doesn’t affect everyone.

Persona 5 releases on April 4 in the Americas and Europe for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.

Was your order cancelled?
