Marvel’s senior VP of games and innovations, Jay Ong, has asked fans to expect some VR-related announcements, which the company is “really excited” to share. In an interview with GameSpot, Ong was asked what fans can look forward to in terms of video games, to which he said:
It’s going to be exciting here. Absolutely expect some announcements in VR, that’s something we’re really excited about. I think our fans are going to go crazy. The things we’re doing there are absolutely amazing.
He then went on to explain the studio’s stance on VR, stating that Marvel sees VR the same way that it sees other platforms in that the company doesn’t want to release something “just for the novelty of it.” Ong also expressed his confidence in Spider-Man and said that it’ll be “one of the best games” on the PlayStation 4.
In VR, we have that same ambition. We think if we do something there, it shouldn’t be just for the novelty of it. It should be something that defines the platform, that defines the experience. Certainly we’re looking to build when Spider-Man comes out, it’ll be one of the best games on the platform, and when Avengers comes out, it’ll be one of the best games on those platforms. We think our efforts in VR will be the same thing.
Insomniac-developed Spider-Man is scheduled for release on the PS4 sometime this year.
