Overwatch Anniversary Event: Three New Arena Maps, New Dance Emotes Teased

On Twitter, the European Overwatch account offered a sneak peek of three new Arena Maps included in the Overwatch Anniversary event, which begins on May 23. Judging by the video, they’ll be based on Dorado, Eichenwalde, and Anubis.

Speaking with Polygon and Reddit, Game Director Jeff Kaplan revealed that the team is working to refresh Overwatch’s standard loot boxes with fan requested rewards in time for the Anniversary Event. These include laughing and sitting emotes for Sombra and Orisa, the shrug that Reaper did in the Uprising comic, and a new emote for Tracer.

Kaplan was also asked about the possibility of an expansion for Overwatch, or a potential sequelHe replied:

I think an expansion pack or a sequel could be cool, I don’t know what that is today. We don’t have an idea where it’s like, ‘Oh okay, I totally know what it is.’ What I don’t like is the concept of splitting up the player-base – I don’t like the idea that some of us can play on this map or that some of us can or some of us can’t play with these heroes and some of us can’t. Just the way that Overwatch was designed, that doesn’t really work.

On Facebook, the Overwatch LatAm account previewed some of the dance emotes included in the Anniversary Event:

If you don’t own Overwatch, a Free Weekend will start on May 26.
