Released in early access last year for Xbox One and PC, the full version of We Happy Few is launching on April 13, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Compulsion Games announced today. Gearbox Publishing is handling publishing duties, and the game will be available both physically and digitally for $59.99.
By pre-ordering We Happy Few, you’ll receive 15% off (at participating retailers) and the in-game Jolly Brolly parasol weapon. Pre-ordering through the PlayStation Store also gets you an exclusive theme. On Xbox One and PC, pre-ordering will give you access to the alpha version.
If you want to spend $150, there’s a limited We Happy Few Collector’s Set, which includes 60s-themed items like a replica Bobby mask, ‘You Look Smashing’ Lamp, the We Happy Few soundtrack on vinyl, a Joy alarm clock, and more.
Here’s the description for We Happy Few:
We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who have their own set of not-so-normal rules.
Compulsion Games also revealed that the final version of We Happy Few will have a full-length story campaign played as three different characters and more than 250 unique encounters. “Each of these three playable characters has their own particular strengths – and their own dark secrets. As they attempt to survive encounters with their drug-addled former neighbors, old friends, ex-lovers, and even each other, they may dig up some long-buried secrets of Wellington Wells itself,” they added.
Designed to be replayed, We Happy Few doesn’t let you reload your save if you die. Instead, you’ll restart in a brand new, procedurally-generated city and be able to customize the world to your liking.
In bringing on Gearbox Publishing, Compulsion Games noted that they continue “to retain all creative control over We Happy Few as it evolves from a crowdfunding digital success to a worldwide multi-platform retail launch.”
Update: The PlayStation Blog notes that We Happy Few will have a Season Pass that “will consist of three pieces of additional game content, which will be released as they become available.” It will be included in the Deluxe Edition.
