Sony Rewards Points

Sony Rewards Points Will Be Limited to Sony or PS Visa Card Purchases Starting Next Year

Sony will change its Sony Rewards points system starting at the beginning of next year. From January 1, 2022, users will only receive Sony Rewards points when they purchase items on the PlayStation Store using a Sony or PlayStation Visa credit card.

Sony announced the upcoming change via an email to PS Rewards users. Previously, users were able to earn one point per dollar spent at the PlayStation Store regardless of purchasing method. These benefits also extended to other Sony services, allowing consumers to earn points through purchasing electronics as well as movies.

While the service is only available in the US, it used to be a pretty lucrative method to get some extra games for those who frequented the PS Store. Users could redeem the points for video games, electronics, and even gift cards and PSN credit. As reported by ResetEra user Harris Katz, the update effectively changes the Sony Rewards points system into a credit card reward program.

Sony originally expanded the Sony Rewards system to include purchases in the PlayStation Store back in 2013. In 2017, it also updated the system to reward players with points for earning trophies. Unfortunately, that was changed a year later in 2018 after Sony updated its terms and conditions.
