Polyphony Apologizes and Promises to Adjust Gran Turismo 7 Credit Payouts

After intense backlash, Polyphony Digital has readjusted its stance on Gran Turismo 7 credits, and has promised to release a hefty update that’ll overhaul the game’s reward system. President Kazunori Yamauchi penned a lengthy mea culpa on the PlayStation Blog, apologizing for the frustration players have experienced thus far due to lengthy outages and the unsavory credit payout situation. They’re being compensated with a million credits.

When will Gran Turismo 7 credit payouts be fixed?

The aforementioned update will release sometime in the beginning of April. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Increase rewards in the events in the latter half of the World Circuits by approximately 100% on average.
  • Addition of high rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in all Gold/All Bronze results.
  • Increase of rewards in Online Races.
  • Include a total of eight new one-hour Endurance Race events to Missions. These will also have higher reward settings.
  • Increase the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20M Cr. to 100M Cr.
  • Increase the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time.

In addition to this, Polyphony will release another “near-term” update that’ll bring the following changes:

  • Increase the payout value of limited time rewards as we develop as a live service.
  • Further World Circuit event additions.
  • Addition of Endurance Races to Missions including 24-hour races.
  • Addition of Online Time Trials and awarding of rewards according to the player’s difference with the top ranked time.
  • Make it so cars can be sold.

A release date will be shared in due course.

Opinion: Better late than never

Zarmena writes… Polyphony’s initial statement regarding the credit nerf left a bad taste in players’ mouths, who were already frustrated with the game’s shaky online accessibility. I also find it interesting that the developer has only just announced that it’ll add the ability to sell cars, which is something Gran Turismo 7 was actually advertised with, as players pointed out last weekend. The mea culpa on PlayStation Blog is much appreciated, but the ability to play solo offline would perhaps make up for the fiasco more than an apology does.

In other news, PSVR 2’s playable demo has impressed developers at GDC 2022, and Dirt Rally 3 has reportedly been cancelled.
