PlayStation 5 Getting Collection of Games in Series Not Seen Since PS3

PlayStation 5 players are set to witness the return of nostalgia with a classic shooter franchise. Publisher Commodore and developer Antstream, in partnership with Team17, have announced a special collection of games under the Alien Breed series.

The first era of the Alien Breed franchise saw multiple entries released in the 90s. Now, they are all coming back with a modern touch and fluidity for the latest platforms, including PlayStation 5.

To celebrate 35 years of the series, Commodore and Antstream have revealed the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection. Players will get to experience six games from the first era, namely Alien Breed, Alien Breed Special Edition ’92, Alien Breed II: The Horror Continues (OCS and AGA versions), Alien Breed: Tower Assault (Amiga 1200 and CD32 versions), Alien Breed 3D (including Demo 1 and 2), and Alien Breed 3D II: The Killing Grounds.

Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection will offer modern-day fans a taste of the old days with improved graphics and gameplay tweaks. According to the official description, they will need to “Infiltrate the station, get power and systems back online, uncover the last, complete archive of original redacted documents, first-person combat firefights and classified secrets.”

The new collection will have an upgraded hardware interface, full twin-stick support for both 2D and 3D titles, and classic Mouse and Keyboard support for 3D. Players will witness enhanced framerates alongside the option to switch between a classic 4:3 aspect ratio or modern 16:9 formats to have a retro look.

There will be new online modes as well, including the Horde Mode and Rush Mode. Players can experience them either solo or in a squad. Additionally, there’s also The Vault, offering intel on the concept art and original retail releases.

What is Alien Breed’s history on PlayStation?

When the Alien Breed franchise began in 1991, by developer Team17, the titles weren’t originally available for PlayStation devices. In fact, none of the original six games in the series arrived on a PlayStation until 2010.

The revival of the series in 2010 saw Alien Breed: Evolution coming to the PlayStation 3, as Alien Breed: Impact. It marked the debut of the franchise on Sony’s gaming hardware.

PlayStation 3 then witnessed another installment, Alien Breed 2: Assault. It was released for PS3 via the PlayStation Network in 2010. The next entry in the series that arrived on the platform was Alien Breed 3: Descent. It was launched for PS3 in the year 2011.

As for Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection, it will arrive for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox on September 24, 2026.
