Resistance 3 Beta Revealed, Multiplayer Explained

Insomniac Games have always tried to push boundaries with the Resistance series’ multiplayer modes, bringing a then-unprecedented 60 player mode to the PlayStation 3. However, some fans of the series thought that Resistance 2‘s large matches led to uncoordinated and chaotic matches – something that Insomniac aims to change in Resistance 3, minimising the size of multiplayer modes, focusing on more centered close quarter games. To trial out the new multiplayer and work out any kinks, the developer has announced a beta for the game.

Resistance 3 will feature 16 player Human vs. Chimera deathmatch and objective-based modes, a step back from the 40 and 60 player matches of Resistance 1 and 2. James Stevenson, Senior Community Manager, Insomniac Games described the new multiplayer on the PS Blog:

Resistance 3 will offer a very deep and customizable progression system. Players can create their own progression paths through multiplayer, spending their hard-earned points to customize loadouts that fit their unique playstyle. We learned a lot from Resistance 2 co-op in terms of giving players the ability to create specific roles in a team and level up different abilities – which you will see with the various active tactical and support abilities, as well as the new personal and combat attributes.

Players can choose and level different support abilities including Bubble Shield, Ammo Beacon or Radar Beacon and tactical abilities that are used against enemies, such as the Doppelganger or Dash.

Insomniac will be bringing a multiplayer beta to the PlayStation Network “later this year”, but no further details were announced. Are you excited for the Resistance beta, or would you prefer the inFamous 2 beta? Let us know in the comments below.
