About Time: Final Fantasy Versus XIII now in Full Production
The game that made its debut over five years ago is finally getting the attention that it deserves. The long awaited Final Fantasy XIII spinoff Versus XIII is now a top priority over at Square.
Not long ago, Final Fantasy Versus XIII was confirmed to be absent at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, and it goes without saying that this concerned many fans of the franchise. With the monstrous project that was Final Fantasy XIII now complete, it is hard to imagine how Square could justify not showing Versus XIII in some capacity this year. Now, with Final Fantasy XIII-2 on the horizon (and possibly XIII-3 after that), some jumped to the conclusion that the team had completely scrapped Versus and moved on to the direct sequel to FFXIII.
Square has spoken out at a recent fan meeting to reassure gamers that Versus XIII does still exist and the development team is firing on all cylinders to get the game complete. Yoshinori Kitase went so far as to say that “Type-0 and Versus XIII have of course advanced to 100 percent development power.” Back in July, game director Tetsuya Nomura revealed that the game had yet to enter production, so it’s great to see the title has finally been given the manpower it needs.
