Winged Victory Mercy and Oni Genji Overwatch Skins Disabled by Blizzard Due to Bug in Recent Patch

The most recent Overwatch update brought about some big changes to the game, most notably the new Junkertown map, a complete rework of Mercy, and readjusting how the Mystery Heroes game mode works. It also gave new voice lines to the Winged Victory Mercy and Oni Genji skins when they performed their Ultimate, except that a bug is causing these new voice lines not to trigger properly. These two Overwatch skins have been disabled by Blizzard until a fix can be put in place.

While it may not seem like a big deal to have a few bugs on voice lines, audio triggers are one of the cornerstones of Overwatch’s situational awareness during matches. Allowing these two skins to silently trigger their Ultimates could be exploited unfairly. Until a fix is in place, anyone with these skins equipped will default to the standard Mercy or Genji skin.

Over in the Overwatch forum, Blizzard Community Manager Josh Engen was quick to communicate that they are actively working on a fix.

Following the release of today’s patch, we discovered an issue affecting two Legendary skins: Oni Genji and Winged Victory Mercy. This bug prevents the heroes’ ultimate voice lines from functioning properly when these skins are equipped.

Due to the impact of this issue, we’ve temporarily disabled the affected skins and restored the default skin for any players who had Oni or Winged Victory equipped.

We’re working to remedy the situation quickly, but the fix will require a follow up patch in the coming days. For PC players, this patch will mostly likely be released this week, but we don’t currently have an ETA for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One patches. We will provide updates as they become available.

Sincere apologies for the inconvenience, and thank you so much for your patience!

We’ll keep you updated on when Blizzard is able to offer a resolution to this issue.
