Metal Gear Rising Won’t Come to Vita, Too Powerful for the Hardware

Kojima Productions isn’t currently considering a Vita version of the upcoming Metal Gear spinoff Revengeance. According to creative producer Yuji Korekado, the “free cut” mechanic simply requires too much power.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Korekado explained:

As of now we aren’t considering a Vita version. The reason is one of the main appeals of Metal Gear Rising is this option of the free cut. That requires a lot of hardware power, which is only possible with the power of a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

So as of now, we haven’t contemplated bringing it to handheld consoles.

Considering how important the “free cut” mechanic is to Metal Gear Rising’s gameplay, its hard to imagine how KojiPro and Platinum would be able to pull it off on a handheld without completely neutering the experience. You have to admit though, being able to take that action-packed experience with you on the go would be pretty awesome.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is set to launch on February 19th for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
