Another Disaster Like the Launch of FFXIV Could be the End of Square, Claims Director

The launch of Square Enix’s latest Final Fantasy MMO was a disaster for the PC, leaving PlayStation gamers patiently waiting for an updated version that wasn’t completely broken. It appears that they’re taking steps in the right direction with the 2.0 update, A Realm Reborn, but we’ll have to wait and see if that truly is the case when it officially launches.

Meanwhile, the game’s director, Noaki Yoshida, has spoken out to Kotaku, making it clear that he is well aware of the stakes, promising to never repeat the disaster that was FFXIV. “We won’t make a mistake like FFXIV again – if we did, it would be like at the level of destroying the company,” he explained.

Apparently a number of Square Enix employees weren’t too pleased with the publisher’s decision to push the game out in the state it was currently in, and Yoshida was one of them. “When I heard that it was going to go on sale as planned, I thought, that will probably be a big mistake,” he added.

Let’s just hope that A Realm Reborn turns things around for Square’s MMO.
