Square Enix Revealing New Console RPG in December That “Isn’t a Remake”

With The Game Awards and PlayStation Experience at the beginning of the month, then Jump Festa at the end of the month, December is poised to become a big month for brand new game announcements.

While they didn’t specify how or when they’ll unveil it, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda told Famitsu that “we’re working on a new RPG specifically for consoles and it isn’t a remake.” He adds, “We’ll start talking about it more in December and go from there.”

Square Enix recently confirmed their line-up of titles for Jump Festa, and it includes Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (playable and a trailer), Final Fantasy XV (trailer), and other games like Dragon Quest Heroes and Bravely Second. With such a big showing planned, it would make sense if the announcement of this new console RPG took place then.

Getting back to that Famitsu interview, Matsuda talked about how Square Enix has “a lot of titles in the pipeline” not just for consoles, but smartphones and PC as well, and this includes the games their overseas studios are working on.

He continued:

I can’t talk about what platform those other titles are going to be on yet, whether they’ll be on console or mobile, but I believe we should have a wide variety of games to announce after the new year arrives.

These are projects that began after I assumed the role of president at Square Enix. We’re going to have a lot to show for both Japan and overseas markets.

What do you hope to see from Square Enix?
