Former Criterion Developers Working on Burnout Spiritual Successor for PS4, PlayStation VR Support Possible

Following the news that a Burnout Collection is highly unlikely, Three Fields Entertainment, which was created by Criterion (Burnout series) founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, went tease-crazy on Twitter and hinted at a Burnout spiritual successor:

Two things. Our first game is a multiplayer sports game. Coming Spring 2016. Then we make a driving game. RT and #ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster.

What sort of driving game you ask? A spiritual successor. Speed. Traffic. And Crashing. Lots and lots of crashing. #ShinyRedSomething.

Spiritual successor to which one though??? The second, the third or the fourth one?? #decisions

That last tweet means Three Fields will be making a spiritual successor to either Burnout 2: Point of Impact, Burnout 3: Takedown, or Burnout Revenge. Explaining why it won’t be a successor to Burnout Paradise, they said, “We’re only a small team right now so building massive open worlds are a little beyond our reach.”

Following all these tweets, Alex Ward spoke with Develop, revealing that their upcoming racing is indeed based on Burnout:

Our second project will be a racing game. A spiritual successor to one of the Burnout series for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

We aim to support PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift.

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida recently said racing games work well with virtual reality.
