Nidhogg 2 Coming to PS4 in 2017, Includes New Weapons & Levels

Back in September, developer Messhof said Nidhogg 2 is coming to PC “and maybe some other platforms” next year. Today, Messhof announced that Nidhogg 2 is releasing on PlayStation 4 in 2017, complete with “100% more mythical monster butt.”

The original Nidhogg is a multiplayer sword fighting game where two players face off against each other, the winner runs toward your side of the screen, and if you make it all the way to the end, you sacrifice yourself to the flying worm known as Nidhogg. With Nidhogg 2, they’ve added throwing knives, bow and arrows, giant axes, head stomps, new levels (10+ overall), a new soundtrack, improved animations, and an updated art style. You’ll also find local and online multiplayer, a single-player mode versus the AI, and a tournament mode.

Studio Co-Founder Kristy Norindr talked about the new weapons:

Nidhogg 2 is not just about dueling with swords — this time you can wail on your friends with a bow and arrow, toss a throwing knife in their groin, or cleave them in half with a battle-axe! Each weapon has its own unique playstyle. The axe is a bit slower but has nice range and is unblockable. The throwing knife is the only weapon that can be thrown low. The bow and arrow is obviously great at long range, but arrows are easily blocked or dodged and you can run out. With all the different dynamics between weapons there are many more strategies and matches can play out in lots more different ways.

Messhof didn’t say if Nidhogg 2 is also coming to PlayStation Vita.
