Sonic Mania Opening Animation Released Ahead of Launch

SEGA has released Sonic Mania‘s opening animation ahead of the game’s launch on Tuesday, August 15. The video below was animated and directed by Tyson Hesse, and features custom music by Hyper Potions. Take a look!

Here’s an official overview of the upcoming title and what’s included:

Play as Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles as you race through all-new Zones and fully re-imagined classics, each filled with exciting surprises and powerful bosses.  Harness Sonic’s new Drop Dash, Tails’ flight, and Knuckles’ climbing abilities to overcome the evil Dr. Eggman’s robots.  Discover a myriad of never-before-seen hidden paths and secrets!

This all-new experience celebrates the best of Classic Sonic, pushing the envelope forward with stunning 60 FPS gameplay and pixel-perfect physics. Welcome to the next level for the world’s fastest blue hedgehog. Welcome to Sonic Mania.

  • Special Stages – In Special Stages, players chase down enemy UFOs to secure various Chaos Emeralds. Collecting blue spheres along the way will give their character an added boost of speed to their meter. Once the meterfills up, the Mach level increases. Just watch out and don’t speed off the stage!
  • Bonus Stages – In “Blue Spheres”, players navigate Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles through a series of blue spheres to clear the stage. But be careful! Once touched, the blue spheres will turn red. Touching a red sphere instantly ends the Bonus Stage. Silver Medallions are awarded to players who complete the Bonus Stage, while collecting all the blue spheres and rings awards players with a perfect score and a Gold Medallion.
  • Time Attack – Time Attack was also revealed to be a new mode in Sonic Mania. Prove you’re the best of the best in Time Attack, which lets players compete for fastest speed in the world by recording their time in the game’s online leaderboard.

Sonic Mania is set for release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. Head over here for our previous coverage of the game, and stay tuned for our upcoming review.
