Upcoming Outriders Broadcast Will Reveal Massive Free Update, ‘Everything You’ve Been Waiting For’

A new Outriders broadcast will announce a pretty big content update that is said to be “everything you’ve been waiting for,” alongside a recap of the game’s improvements since its launch in April. Square Enix is hosting its sixth Outriders broadcast on November 15, 2021, starting at 9 am PST / 6 pm CET via YouTube and Twitch. It also released a broadcast announcement trailer.

The upcoming broadcast will apparently showcase some updates on “everything you’ve been waiting for,” as well as “everything you didn’t know you’ve been waiting for.” While details are still scarce, the press release indicates that the broadcast will center around a “colossal” free content update coming soon. Additionally, the broadcast will go over Outriders’ post-launch improvements. One thing is for certain, though: developer People Can Fly and publisher Square Enix have set a pretty high bar for themselves.

Outriders initially released in April 2021 to some pretty good reception. The sci-fi RPG shooter is a new IP by Warsaw-based studio People Can Fly, the developers behind Gears of War: Judgment and Bulletstorm. After the game surpassed 3.5 million unique players within the first month of launch, Square Enix announced that Outriders would become its “next biggest franchise.”

However, things have not been so smooth post-launch. Back in September, reports revealed that Square Enix had not yet paid royalties to People Can Fly due to Outriders not reaching the sales targets it had set. This was due to the fact that the two parties had entered a contract where royalties would be paid once Outriders had recouped its development, distribution, and publishing costs. Put simply, Outriders has not been profitable, at least by that time.

That being said, things are still looking up for People Can Fly. Aside from continued development on Outriders, the studio is also working on two other AAA titles; one new title for Square Enix, and another unannounced original action-adventure title under Take-Two Interactive. Furthermore, People Can Fly also revealed that it will no longer focus exclusively on AAA titles, and will begin branching out to AA games with shorter development times and lower budgets.
