GameStop CEO: PlayStation VR “Seems to Have the Strongest Title Count” in the Virtual Reality Space

At the ICR Conference 2016 in Orlando (attended by GameSpot), GameStop CEO Paul Raines discussed the upcoming surge of virtual reality content coming in 2016, first saying that PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive all look great, and that he wouldn’t be drawn into talking about their quality.

Instead, Raines says launch titles will be the biggest factor for VR at GameStop – and Sony is currently leading in that category:

The more important thing will be the title count at launch. I think that’s going to be big. And from what we can see at this point, Sony seems to have the strongest title count.

At the moment, Sony hasn’t confirmed a launch lineup for PSVR when it releases in the first half of 2016, but we do know that there are 100 games in development and 200 developers are signed up for development.

Mentioning how he thinks “VR is a big part of our future,” Raines added that he thinks GameStop will also be a place you buy your virtual reality products, including goggles, gloves, motion controllers, and games.

While we don’t know if Sony will sell PlayStation VR games through retail stores, Raines said virtual reality games will carry file sizes larger than those of AAA games, meaning they could be over 30GB.

Do you think quantity will be more important than quality when it comes to VR games at launch?
