Writer-director Joe Carnahan has enlisted to pen the latest draft of Sony’s long-gestating Uncharted movie, according to Variety.

Caranhan, who will soon be behind the lens of the studio’s action sequel Bad Boys 3, told the outlet he would have liked to direct the big-screen adaptation had scheduling worked in his favor, stating, “in a perfect world I would love to do both, but right now, I’m only on board to write the script.”

Be that as it may, the scribe is relishing the opportunity to delve into Nathan Drake’s adventures.

“Archaeology today is in itself an antiquity, but that world has always fascinated me. Especially when you go to a museum today and wonder how a piece got there to begin with,” he said. “Plus, the property itself is so popular that it was hard to turn down an opportunity to work on it.”

Setting up shop at Arad and Atlas Entertainment Production, DC stalwart Charles Roven is attached to produce alongside Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad.

Last we checked in on Sony’s Uncharted movie, Nolan North believed the feature film was facing an “uphill bill” ahead of its tentative June 2017 release date. Enlisting Carnahan is surely a step in the right direction, but do you think it’s enough to steer the languishing project back on track?
