Battlefield 1: Premium Pass Holders Will Gain Access to Giant’s Shadow and Spectator Mode Tomorrow

December 12, 2016 Written by Michael Briers

Giant’s Shadow, a new complimentary map and the shooter’s first piece of DLC, will become available for Battlefield 1 Premium Pass holders on December 13 — but it isn’t the only new content included in tomorrow’s patch.

Word comes by way of DICE’s official blog, revealing that the much-requested Spectator Mode is also part of the update. It’ll allow players to view online matches through the eye of an observer, while the option to switch to bird’s eye view — not to mention the free-floating camera — ought to be music to the ears of those inclined to capture gameplay footage.

Here’s the official overview of that new mode, courtesy of EA:

“Our goal was to improve Spectator from previous versions of Battlefield. We gathered feedback from the community and focused much of our efforts on improving the usability and flow moving from player-to-player and switching between the different view modes (Table Top, Player View, and Free Cam). Another key design emphasis for us was to make Spectator a viable tool for the community to create content which includes a moveable third-person camera, depth of field, and camera filters.”

Elsewhere, Standard Issue Rifles is an all-new custom game option that lends all BF1 classes “access to their faction’s standard issue rifle – and this rifle only.” We’ve also included a close-up of the Grenade Crossbow down below, a powerful armament for the Support class that can silently fire two Fragmentation or High Explosive grenades.

Curious about the actual setting of Giant’s Shadow itself? We’ll leave you with the official logline:

“With a massive crashed airship casting its shadow onto the battlefield, Giant’s Shadow brings fierce combat on the open ground and river banks alongside the Cateau-Wassigny railway. Battle of the Selle, 1918. British forces have broken through the Hindenburg line and are heading towards a strategic railway center. The outcome is uncertain. An armored train can still turn the tide.”

Giant’s Shadow swings its doors open for Premium Pass holders tomorrow, December 13. Those who originally pre-ordered Battlefield 1 can expect to gain early access, too, while all remaining users will receive the free arena (along with the other new content listed) on December 20.
