Star Wars Battlefront II Story Is “Canon” DICE Confirms, Protagonist Revealed

Given how much success (read: moolah) DICE’s first Battlefront game made for publisher EA, it’s a no-brainer that a sequel would be in the works. While Star Wars Battlefront did manage to let a lot of gamers relive their Star Wars fantasies, it wasn’t without its flaws.

One of the flaws that were repeatedly pointed out was the shooter’s lack of a dedicated single-player campaign — a staple for almost every AAA shooter game these days. Fortunately, it has been confirmed early on that Star Wars Battlefront II will remedy that and will have a single-player campaign.

During the Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida, that PlayStation LifeStyle attended, EA held a press-only dev panel that was attended by DICE, and the studio revealed quite a few details regarding the campaign. First off, DICE has confirmed that the story in Star Wars Battlefront II is canon. Yep, you better believe it. Disney trusts the studio that much, it seems.

For the other bits, it will touch on light spoilers, so proceed at your own discretion, alright?

Still here? Good. According to DICE, Star Wars Battlefront II takes place “immediately after Return of the Jedi.” Given how EA has confirmed that Battlefront II’s campaign will span multiple Star Wars eras, we now know how much it stretches back. Additionally, it’s also been revealed that the protagonist’s name is “Iden Versio.”

Finally, we know that Versio is an Elite (Trooper) unit member whose father was a high-ranking officer on the Death Star 2, who died aboard when it blew up. So, yeah, there’s a lot more there that should be explored in the campaign.

Intrigued? So are we. Given how DICE managed to pull off a fantastic single-player campaign for Battlefield 1, we’re excited to see what the studio can do with Battlefront II’s campaign what with the might of the Star Wars lore behind it.

Star Wars Battlefront II will fly out this November 17 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
