Yoshinori Ono: Street Fighter F2P Model a “Possibility,” But Not in the Near Future

With more and more studios and game franchises going the free-to-play route, could Capcom’s Street Fighter be next?

At last week’s GameStart gaming convention in Singapore, PlayStation LifeStyle was fortunate enough to be part of a media group interview with Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono. In the interview, Ono was asked whether he was looking into a F2P model for the Street Fighter franchise. Speaking via a translator, Ono thinks that there is a possibility of a Street Fighter game made in the F2P model, but adds, “in regards to how to develop the Street Fighter series in a free-to-play model….he (Ono) doesn’t see anything very clear about the model yet.” Ono also adds that he doesn’t see it happening in the very near future.

I don’t know about you, but this is good news, right? Otherwise, we might get that “pay-for-advantage” Street Fighter game that was rumored months ago.

Stay tuned later in the week for our full interview with Yoshi Ono, which is unlike any interview we’ve done before.
