Vampyr Release Delayed From November to Spring 2018

Originally slated to release in November, Vampyr, the highly anticipated game from DontNod, the creators of Life is Strange, has been delayed into Spring 2018 due to technical issues that hung up the game’s development. Publisher Focus Home Interactive and DontNod revealed the Vampyr delay earlier today in a press release.

DontNod Entertainment CEO Oskar Guilbert said the following about the delay:

Delaying the release of a project you hold dear is always a tough decision. However, we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality. We were still convinced just a few weeks ago that we would be able to release Vampyr this year. Unfortunately, a technical issue – now solved – has set our teams’ schedule back at the end of the development.

This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr‘s scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.

We want to thank our publisher Focus Home Interactive for giving us the means and time necessary to provide players a memorable experience… especially since so many of you are eagerly waiting for it.

We’ve had the chance to check out Vampyr a number of times previously at both E3 2016 and 2017. In our most recent look, we said “Vampyr looks like a promising new take on the world of vampires. In an industry over-saturated with zombies, this other form of the undead is a refreshing change of pace. Knowing that the game includes multiple endings will also entice gamers to change up their play style in an effort to view them all.” With the scope and potential that Vampyr has, I’d far prefer that they take their time to get it right than release an early broken experience.

What do you think of the Vampyr delay into next year?
