Rumor: Supermassive Was Once Working on Killzone VR That Might Now Be a PSVR 2 Game

Here’s a new one. A Killzone VR game was reportedly once in development at Until Dawn studio, Supermassive Games. That’s according to Bryan Paul of YouTube channel PSVR Without Parole, which has been behind a number of accurate PSVR reports in the past so this is one we didn’t want to dismiss outright. Paul claims that Sony pulled the game from Supermassive around 2019 because it wasn’t happy with its progress.

Could Killzone VR now be a PSVR 2 game?

Paul claims that Supermassive was working on Killzone VR for a number of years before Sony expressed its dissatisfaction with the progress and decided to bring development in house. He has no idea what’s happened since then but recons that the game could now be a PSVR 2 launch title. While the latter part of his statement in the video above (via Reddit) is purely speculation, that Supermassive was reportedly working on Killzone VR does seem to fall in line with what we’ve heard previously.

In November 2018, Supermassive revealed that it was working on “several” unannounced PlayStation exclusives. Looking at its timeline of releases, the last Supermassive PlayStation exclusives were 2018’s Bravo Team and The Inpatient, which implies that there was something else in development for PlayStation that we haven’t seen thus far. Could that be Killzone VR? Possibly.

Unfortunately, no word on whether Sony canned the project or decided to transform it into a PSVR 2 game. If it is still alive, Killzone VR’s been kept tightly under wraps unlike Horizon: Call of the Mountain, which leaked well before the PSVR 2 was even announced. As far as a new mainline Killzone game is concerned, we wouldn’t advise holding your breath for that one.

In other news, rumor has it that Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game isn’t an Xbox exclusive, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will take full advantage of the PS5.
